The natural insulating qualities of the boots keep feet warm and comfortable. The ideal way to wear Aussoe Dogs is without socks, as the heat generated from the feet penetrates into the fur and creates a warm, insulating bond. According to Watt, the boot's fur releases lanolin for well over a year. The lanolin prevents feet from drying out, a common ailment in cool weather. Also, lanolin counteracts any allergic reaction that some people have to wool, so there is no need to beware of Aussie Dogs slippers, shoes and boots. Even if the wool gets wet inside the boot, the lanolin naturally wicks water away from the skin and into the wool.
